The First Day of School

The First Day of School

The first day of school is a reason to celebrate, but for many across the world, it is something that is far out of reach.

In the majority of the world, school is not free. This is especially true for Haiti. School fees for each child represent over 20 percent of household income for the lowest income quintile; a poor household with three children thus spends more than 60 percent of household income on education, a truly remarkable sacrifice for parents. Many have to make the difficult decision to eat for the day or send their children to school.

What is most disheartening about these statistics is that education is the element that is shown to make the biggest difference when it comes to advancing a country. The world bank states “Education probably holds the greatest promise. Numerous studies have linked education to widespread benefits: reduced infant mortality rates, improved child nutrition, later age at marriage, lower birthrates, and greater likelihood that their children will be educated. The cycle is thus self-perpetuating and intergenerational, as children (including girls) become educated.”

At LaPoint.Life we are committed to empowering others through three key pillars; healthcare, entrepreneurship, and education. In 2016 we started a school in partnership with local leadership. On the first day there were 125 kids. Fast forward to 2023, and on September 12th we had over 600 students attend! Imagine the impact this will have on future generations.

For as little as $16 a month, you can help provide an education for a child who would otherwise not be able to attend school.
