Each day women from the community are employed to cook hot meals for the students at ECCA school.

 

40% of the population in Haiti will need humanitarian assistance by the end of 2020, according to OCHA. The highest need will be a result of food insecurity. The World Food Program that’s that Haiti has one of the highest levels of food insecurity in the world. According to a new Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis, more than one in three people need urgent food assistance, that is nearly 3.7 million people. The community of La Pointe, Haiti falls into this category. With a lack of available work, and infrastructure challenges, many families go to bed hungry each night. Being that education is a main focus of La Pointe Foundation, we found it vital that a food program was part of our holistic approach. In collaboration with the WFP, all 425 students receive a hot meal each day. For some, this is the only meal they will eat. Simply put, how can we expect children to concentrate and do well in school on an empty stomach? All foundational needs of an individual must be supported to help them reach their full potential.
